About Us
HostWirral
is a company based on the Wirral Peninsula in
Cheshire, England, UK. Formed in 2006, the company was formed as a venture
to offer web hosting services to the residents of Wirral in particular by
WirralNet, a leading web services provider established since July 2002. We
came up with the idea of free hosting as a way to enable more people and
businesses in Wirral can make use of the Internet to express themselves and
empower their businesses.
The company was originally formed only to provide services to the local
area. However, we have since decided that whilst our web design service will
be concentrated on the local community, our web hosting service will be
targeted at the much wider national community. The aim of HostWirral is to
provide honest and reliable services at an affordable price.
We are very proud of Wirral and believe that, like the rest of the UK, it
has some beautiful landmarks and places of interest. It is for this reason
that we have themed our website around photographs taken from beauty spots
around the Wirral Peninsula.
The Wirral
Peninsula
The
Wirral Peninsula is located in Cheshire, England, UK. It is situated just
west of Chester and is surrounded by the River Mersey to the North, the
River Dee to the South and the Irish Sea to the West. Its is famously part
of the Ceremonial county of Merseyside, which the major city of Liverpool,
across the River Mersey, is also a part of.
The Wirral can be traced back to the Viking period, and was originally an
independent Viking state. Recorded civilisation began to appear during the
1300's, when the very first Mersey Ferries were run by Benedictine Monks
from what is now known as Birkenhead to Liverpool.
However, it was not until the 1800's that Wirral started to become highly
populated. This was mainly due to the industrial revolution which was taking
place across England at the time, with Liverpool being one of the main
cities at the forefront of this major change. During the 1800's, Wirral grew
at an unimaginable rate, and became one of the major shipbuilding area's in
the world, with the world famous Cammell Lairds shipyard opening in
Birkenhead. Along with this, Wirral also got its first railway, which was
built by George Stephenson. This railway was originally connected to Chester
and by the end of the 1800's, it was connected to Liverpool via a tunnel
running under the River Mersey.
During the 1800's, Lever Brothers, nowadays more commonly known as Unilever,
opened the famous industrial village of Port Sunlight, and made Lord
Levehulme's dream of a benign place of work become a reality.
The Wirral proudly hosted the 2006 British Open Golf Championship's, one of
the four major worldwide tournaments and the only one outside of the United
States. The championship was won by a certain Tiger Woods, in one of the
most exciting golf finale's of recent times.
